Proper Care for DTF Printed Apparel
Proper washing and care of DTF (Direct-to-Film) prints helps maintain color saturation, flexibility, and resistance to cracking for over 50 wash cycles. The following guidelines protect the polyurethane (TPU) adhesive bond and eliminate the risk of mechanical damage to the print.

1. Wait 24–48 hours before the first wash (Curing Time)
After application with a heat press, the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) adhesive needs a full day at room temperature to chemically bond with the cotton fibers. Too early contact with water and detergent weakens the adhesive, causing small elements to peel off and micro-cracks to form.
2. Always turn the garment inside out
Turning the garment inside out before putting it into the washing machine eliminates direct friction of the graphic against the metal drum of the washing machine, sharp zippers, and buttons on other clothes.
3. Choose a gentle cycle and a temperature up to 30°C
High temperatures (40°C and above) plasticize the transfer adhesive and weaken its adhesion. Recommended programs: Delicate, Synthetics or Hand Wash with spinning up to 800 rpm.
4. Do not use fabric softeners or bleaches
Fabric softeners deposit a silicone layer on the fibers that breaks down the adhesive bonds of the DTF print. Bleaches and chlorine-based stain removers destroy pigments and lead to color fading.
5. Dry naturally and iron only on the reverse side
Drying: Hang the garment on a hanger in the shade. Hot air in an automatic dryer damages the film structure.
Ironing: Iron on the reverse side at a temperature up to 110°C (1 dot) or protect the graphic with baking paper.
Can DTF prints be tumble dried?
No. High temperatures and intense friction in a tumble dryer shrink the print, cause the ink to crack, and the edges of the transfer to peel off.
Why should fabric softener not be used with DTF prints?
Fabric softeners contain greasing agents and silicones that penetrate under the edges of the print and weaken the adhesion of the hot-melt adhesive to cotton.
Can DTF prints be ironed?
Direct contact of a hot iron with the print will melt the polyurethane coating. Ironing is only allowed on the reverse side of the fabric or through parchment paper at a low temperature (max. 110°C).
